About Us
The City of Lexington, in collaboration with the Piedmont Triad Regional Council and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Thriving Communities Program, is developing a Multimodal Transportation Plan to improve walking, biking, driving, and transit across the city. Lexington is one of just 52 communities nationwide, and one of only two in North Carolina, selected to receive planning and technical assistance through this federal program.

 
The plan will guide future transportation investments, policies, and development decisions as part of the City of Lexington Comprehensive Plan. It is a roadmap for how our streets, sidewalks, and connections should grow over time and it positions the City to compete for future funding to help make those improvements a reality.

What to Expect
Building the plan happens in stages, with community input at the center:

Listening. We’re gathering input from residents through the survey and in-person events to understand how people move around Lexington today and where the gaps are.
Understanding. That input, combined with analysis of our existing streets and sidewalks, becomes a clear picture of current conditions and needs.
Planning. Together we’ll shape a vision, set priorities, and identify specific improvements, forming the Multimodal Transportation Plan that becomes part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
