How do I report illegal dumping?'
If you witness illegal dumping in progress, call Police Non-Emergency at 336-243-3305. To report illegal dumping that has already occurred (not in progress), call Police Non-Emergency at 336-243-3305. If you witness someone dumping what may be hazardous waste, please call 911. -
What if my collection day falls on a holiday?
The Holiday Collection Schedule is available at www.LexingtonNC.gov/holiday or contact Public Services Administration at 336-243-2489. -
Who should I call if my rollout container is missed on my collection day?
If you think your rollout container (including waste, recyclable, and/or yard waste) has been missed, contact Public Services Administration at 336-243-2489 if not collected by 4:30 p.m. on the designated collection day. Report the missed pickup by the next business day. All collection routes are videotaped for quality control and Recycling & Waste Collection Supervisor can view the recorded video if necessary to verify time of container placement.' -
What do I need to do if I generate more trash than will fit in a City-issued rollout container?
Additional garbage (green) or recyclable (blue) rollout containers can be requested from Public Services Administration at 336-243-2489. There will be an additional charge of $5.00 per month per additional rollout container. -
Will the City empty a non-City issued garbage rollout container?
No. -
My rollout container needs repairing. What do I need to do?
Call Public Services Administration at 336-243-2489. A work order will be created to schedule the repair. Leave the damaged rollout container at curb, street or roadside until repair is completed. -
Can I throw construction debris in the garbage rollout?
No. Construction debris of any kind will not be collected; nor contents inside rollout container. A violation notification will be left by the driver explaining the reason why your garbage was not collected as it was mixed with non-collectable materials, such as construction debris. -
Where should I park my car, so that it doesn't affect collection of my garbage or recycling?
The arm of the automated truck requires a distance of at least ten (10) feet between a parked vehicle and the rollout container. Vehicles should not be parked in front of or within ten (10) feet of any rollout containers. -
Can I throw carpeting into the garbage rollout?
No. Carpeting placed inside the rollout will not be collected; nor contents inside rollout container. A violation notification will be left by the driver explaining the reason why your garbage was not collected as it was mixed with non-collectable materials, such as carpet. -
Can I put yard waste in the garbage rollout?
No. State law prohibits disposal of yard wastes into a landfill. Rollouts containers containing yard wastes will not be collected. -
Does the lid have to be closed?
Yes. A closed lid will limit contents from blowing into the neighborhood and exiting the rollout container during the collection process. All garbage waste must be bagged and contained within the rollout container. -
Where do I place the garbage and recycling rollouts for collection?
All rollout containers (including waste, recyclable, and yard waste) are to be placed in the street gutter area oriented properly with the rollout wheels facing the house, arrows on the lid facing the street. All rollout containers should be placed at least four (4) feet from any obstructions (other rollouts, mailboxes, utility poles, etc.) and at least ten (10) feet from parked vehicles. Without clear access to the rollout containers, the arm of the automated truck cannot complete collection. -
What can be done if my rollout container smells or is dirty?
Residents should clean their rollout containers regularly with a solution of environmentally friendly soap and water. All garbage waste must be bagged to reduce odors and prevent leaks. -
Why was a brown or yellow tag placed on my rollout container

Why was an orange or green tag placed on my rollout container?
We need your help with garbage collection. The reason for the tag should be checked on the tag. -
Where should I store the rollout containers?
All rollout containers (including waste, recyclable, and yard waste) must be returned to the residence from the curb, street, or roadside by midnight on the day of collection.' -
How do I dispose of cardboard boxes?
Break down and flatten all boxes so they will freely fit inside the recycling rollout container. If the boxes are too large to break down and cannot be placed into the recycling rollout container, please contact Public Services Administration at 336-243-2489 for proper collection. -
What time does the garbage truck come by my house to collect my trash or recyclables?
Between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. All rollout containers should be placed at the curb, street, or roadside by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection (preferably the night before) in order to ensure proper collection. All rollout containers must be returned to the residence from curb, street or roadside at the end of the collection day. From time to time, routes may be rearranged or drivers may change, which may result in a slight time change between each collection week within your service are.
