Sound the AlarmThe Lexington Fire Department will be participating in the nationwide American Red Cross Sound the Alarm campaign Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lexington Firefighters, community partners and Red Cross volunteers will join together to:

  • Canvass at-risk neighborhoods
  • Install free smoke alarms
  • Replace batteries in existing smoke alarms
  • Provide fire prevention and safety education

In 2017, the Lexington Fire Department visited more than 100 homes and installed 74 alarms in 45 homes - all in one day. This year the hope is to have even more of an impact.

According to the American Red Cross, every day seven people die in home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms. For more information, check out the Facebook event below.
