You are going to want to plan some extra travel time if your commute takes you through I-85 at NC-8 in Lexington in the evening. Starting Monday, September 25th at 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. a road closure and detour will be in place. This detour will continue nightly at that time until the work is complete. The work is scheduled to be completed on Saturday, September 30th in the morning. This is all part of construction work for the new Hwy 8 (Winston Road) bridge over I-85 Business in Lexington. Crews will be demolishing the old bridge structure.
The detour is as follows: Northbound I-85 Business traffic will perform an “up and over” motion, by exiting onto the Hwy 8 off ramp, crossing over Hwy 8 at the top of the ramp, and re-entering I-85 Business via the on ramp. Southbound I-85 Business traffic will be placed onto an off-site detour. Southbound motorists will exit onto the Hwy 8 off ramp, turn right onto Hwy 8, turn left onto Biesecker Road, turn left onto West Center Street Extension, and turn right to re-enter I-85 Business in front of Lexington BBQ (the next exit south from Hwy 8). The detour route will be signed with message boards to assist motorists at each turn.
