The City of Lexington invites interested parties to attend an Open House for the redevelopment of 211-213 South Main Street, a historic property located in the heart of Uptown Lexington. The event will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the site.

The City of Lexington has released a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) for the redevelopment of this site into a mixed-use development that breathes new life in South Main and compliments the cultural and architectural heritage of the surrounding area.

"Our RFP process encourages developers to be creative in preparing and submitting plans that they believe would represent the best use of the property. We're excited about the wide scope of potential ideas and look forward to a partnership that furthers Uptown's vision as a destination to work, live and play" said Tammy Absher, Director of Business and Community Development.

Please be advised that this is not a formal bidding process, and the City is not soliciting bids, but rather seeking ideas and plans for consideration. This Open House offers a unique opportunity for developers to tour the ~8,260 square-foot two-story structure. The property was donated to the city in 2018, and the City used a portion of the first floor to expand the Smith Civic Center facilities. Some of the previous businesses that occupied the spaces were consignment stores, boutiques, salons, and offices.

This project aligns with the city’s broader goals to encourage upper-story residential use, promote economic vitality, and support the continued transformation of Lexington’s historic downtown. Proposals for the site are due by 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2025. For more details about the Request for Proposals and submission instructions, visit www.lexingtonnc.gov/rfp
