Proclamations & Recognitions

Proclamations presented by Mayor Jason Hayes honored the U.S. Army’s 250th Birthday (presented to Veteran Hal Routh), National Homeownership Month (presented to Home Solutions of Davidson County Executive Director Toby Prince), and LGBTQ+ Pride Month (presented to representatives from Lexington Pride).

There was a presentation recognizing city departments that earned Gold & Silver Safety Awards from the NC Dept. of Labor for outstanding workplace safety. To quality for an annual safety award, recognized departments had to have no fatalities during the calendar year for which the award was given, and maintain an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry.

Financial Excellence

Our finance department received national recognition for excellence in financial reporting for the 33rd year in a row. Out of 90,837 cities, counties, and school districts throughout the United States, only 3.4% percent of them received this prestigious award in the most recently published award program year. The certificate is from the Government Finance Officers Association and is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

A Balanced Budget Adopted

The 2025-26 fiscal year budget of $131,161,934 was adopted with key investments in street resurfacing, the continued implementation of a greenway plan and more. There are no tax rate increases for Lexington residents as a part of this budget plan. During the consent agenda portion of the meeting, City Council approved the addition of four personnel positions due to the increased volume of economic development in Lexington, the reclassification of positions based on market analysis conducted by Human Resources, several items regarding the 2025-2026 fiscal year budget, the right-of-way encroachment agreement for the Natural Gas Main extension to serve Divert, and project ordinance amendments regarding the Fairview Dr Expansion and Transco Interconnect Projects.

The next City Council meeting will be held on Monday, June 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Centre Council Chambers (200 N State St, Lexington, NC 27292).
