The City of Lexington's Finance Department has received one of the highest nationally recognized certifications for the thirty-third consecutive year.
At the June 9, 2025, City Council meeting, City Manager Johnnie Taylor presented Finance with a certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2024. The certificate is from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The GFOA was founded in 1906 and represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. GFOA states that their mission is to advance excellence in public finance.

Out of 90,837 cities, counties and school districts throughout the United States, only 3,117 (3.4%) received this prestigious award in the most recently published award program year. Despite the highly regarded organizations in the public sector that GFOA represents, Lexington has continued to receive this award for over three decades.

"I joined the City of Lexington this past November and I was welcomed with a great team. Even during times of transition, they continued to persevere and work hard together. I've been deeply inspired by the teams unwavering dedication" said Kimber Hurlocker, the City of Lexington's Chief Financial Officer. "I could tell from day one that this team cares deeply about the community they serve and being great stewards of the city's finances. The fact that they not only pursued but have received this recognition for 33 consecutive years speaks to their resilience, character and commitment to excellence."
We would like to our finance department for your dedication to excellence, integrity and making our finance team one of the best in the nation.
