Divert, Inc., an impact technology company on a mission to Protect the Value of Food™, will hold a groundbreaking on Wednesday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. for an Integrated Diversion and Energy Facility in Lexington. The address for the groundbreaking is 305 E. US 64, Lexington, NC 27292. The facility is expected to provide social, economic, and environmental benefits to the community.

Divert operates 13 facilities across the U.S., capturing wasted food from retailers and other companies, transforming it into carbon-negative renewable energy, thereby preventing it from emitting harmful methane in landfills. To date, Divert has processed 3.2 billion pounds of wasted food and used its technology to donate over 13.2 million pounds of nutritious food to those in need.

Divert’s groundbreaking comes at a time when Lexington is experiencing an economic boom with diverse companies opening facilities in the area. “We're honored to welcome Divert to Lexington, and we're thrilled to break ground on a facility that represents progress in Lexington's sustainability efforts” said Lexington Mayor Jason Hayes. “This groundbreaking marks the first step toward a more sustainable and healthier future for Lexington. Divert's innovative system will play a vital role in boosting our environmental efficiency and providing great jobs. Another exciting aspect of Divert’s investment in our community is our Interconnect Agreement. This agreement provides Lexington Utilities more renewable natural gas to provide to Lexington residents and other communities and further strengthens the city’s economic future. We look forward to Divert being a valued partner in the community for many years to come”.

Davidson County Commissioner Todd Yates has emphasized how the company will improve the wellbeing of Davidson County residents and bring more well-paying jobs to the area. “Davidson County is excited that Divert has decided to expand their operations and further their commitment as a valued corporate partner in our community,” said Yates. “This announcement is the result much hard work and collaboration between Divert, Davidson County, the City of Lexington, and the Davidson County EDC.”
