Siemens Mobility Chose Lexington, NC

LEXINGTON, NC – Siemens Mobility announced today that it chose Lexington, NC, as their new home to a new $220+ million advanced manufacturing and rail services facility. The East Coast facility will create more than 500 new jobs to become one of the City's largest employers and the largest taxpayer in the City's history. As a global manufacturer of rail transportation vehicles and control systems, Siemens Mobility will fulfill the growing demand for passenger rail in America by producing some of the North American market's most innovative and sustainable passenger trains. As the United States' largest passenger rolling stock manufacturer, this expansion is projected to grow the State of North Carolina's economy by $1.6 billion.

"After four decades of manufacturing trains in America and on behalf of all 4,000 Siemens Mobility employees in the US, we are excited to announce that we will expand to our new east coast hometown in Lexington, NC," said Marc Buncher, CEO of Siemens Mobility North America. "Now is the moment in time for rail in America and this facility supports our strategy to grow in close proximity to our customers as well as provide us with the added capacity needed to push the boundaries of innovation."

"Siemens' announcement catapults the growth Lexington and Davidson County have recently been experiencing," said Lexington Mayor Jason Hayes. "The investment and jobs that this project brings to the area will improve the quality of life for countless in our community. We are so excited to see how this will transform the entire region over the next several decades."
Landing this global direct investment is the ultimate successful result of an innovative public-private joint venture between the City of Lexington and Front Street Capital that started in 2019. With production beginning in 2024, this innovative global company chose Lexington Industrial Park, a 200-acre site on Brown Street, which allows for future expansion. The City also leveraged its partnership with ElectriCities of NC to certify the site a Smart Site, deeming it shovel-ready for development.

Siemens Mobility sought a central location with access to all critical transportation in the global economy and a progressive community in which to conduct business. After fierce competition with two other states, Siemens chose the City of Lexington as its new East Coast home!
